Paul Strickler

Paul B. Strickler age 87 of York, NE died Friday, September 12, 2008 at Plattsmouth, NE. He was born January 8, 1921 at Geneva, NE to Lerton E. and Ethel M. (Badger) Strickler and graduated from high school at Julian, NE in 1938. He also attended York College for several years as well. On January 3, 1943 he was married at York to Hazel Alice Hazzard of Miller, NE and was then inducted in to the United States Army in June of 1944 and was discharged June 1946. He worked in Grand Island and York before being employed by McAllister Transfer Inc for three years and then went to work for Consumers Public Power District on March 1, 1950. He worked as Stores Clerk and District Storekeeper. On February 1, 1968 he transferred to Columbus, NE General office as Assistant Purchasing Agent. In October 1976 he transferred to Gerald Gentleman Station as Administrative Supervisor. On March 31, 1983 he retired from Gerald Gentleman Station as Station Accountant with 33 years of service. They then moved back to York in April of that year and have been very active in community life. On December 1, 2007 he and Hazel moved to Plattsmouth, NE where they resided at the Masonic Home. Paul enjoyed making ceramics, crocheting, music, volunteering, playing golf and traveling. He was a former member of East Avenue United Methodist Church in York, the United Methodist Men, Masonic Lodge #56 AF & AM, Eastern Star Grace Chapter #87 and served as a member of the Epworth Village Board of Directors. He was also a member of the American Legion Post #19 and the DAV and York Sertoma Club.

He is survived by his wife Hazel of Plattsmouth, a son Ronald and his wife Cheryl Strickler of Bellevue, NE and a daughter Rhonda and her husband Craig Thompson of Vancouver, WA; 3 Grandchildren including Scott Strickler of Kansas City, Jeff and his wife Kristen Strickler of Fremont and Dustin Strickler of Bellevue, nieces, nephews and a host of friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers Forrest and Virgil, and four sisters, Esther, Mildred, Bernice and Beatrice.

Funeral services were held at 10:30 am Wednesday, September 17, 2008 at the First United Methodist Church in York with the Reverends Art Phillips and John Blinn officiating. Military graveside services were at the Greenwood Cemetery in York. Memorials may be directed to Epworth Village or to the York Area Senior Center.
