Elmer Straube
Elmer T. Straube, age 88 of York, died Thursday, November 30, 2006 at York. He was born June 29, 1918 at Burr, NE to Carl and Alice (Hogarth) Straube. Elmer served in the US Army from 1941-46 and worked for the Internal Revenue Service from 1947-76 then owned the Tornado Lumber Co. in Grand Island for 20 years. He was united in marriage to Ruth Lawrence June 12, 1949, and they had three daughters, Carol, Anne and Mary. Ruth died in May of 1994. Elmer then married Gladys Naber, February 22, 1997 and they made their home in York. Elmer was an avid bridge player and enjoyed polka and ballroom dancing, traveling, swimming, walking and hunting & fishing.
Elmer is survived by his wife Gladys of York; daughters: Carol and her husband Jack Richardson of Grand Island, Anne and her husband Stuart Jarrett of Winfield, KS and Mary and her husband Steve Stewart of Fargo, ND; step-sons: Doyle Naber and his wife Janet of Waco, NE and Lynn Naber and his wife Barbara of Kearney, NE; grandchildren: Jennifer Grobe and Rich Richardson of Grand Island, Amanda Adkins of Lincoln, C. J. Kirkpatrick of Ft. Hood, TX, Scott Jarrett of Kansas City, MO and Tim Stewart of Fargo; step-grandchildren: Wendy Rathjen of York, Denise Ehlers of Dorchester, NE, Heather Chase of Bradshaw, NE, Adam Naber of Omaha, William Naber of St. Joseph, MO, and Kate Bombeck of Kearney; 5 great grandchildren; and 12 step-great grandchildren.. Preceding him in death were his parents and first wife Ruth.
Funeral services were held on Monday, December 4, 2006 at Emmanuel Lutheran Church in York with the Revs. Mike Niedow and Rick Hathaway officiating. Graveside services were at the Grand Island Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the National Parkinson Foundation or family choice.
