Dennis Henry Staehr
Dennis Henry Staehr, age 65 of York, died Sunday, September 19, 2004 as the result of an automobile accident south of Waco, NE. He was born January 26, 1939 at Waco to Alfred and Grace (Dey) Staehr. Following his graduation from High School, he worked for York Packing for 27 years then he worked at Overland Ready Mix in York for 15 years. On September 27, 1959, he was married to JoeAnne Opfer at the Emmanuel Lutheran Church in York. Dennis was a longtime member of the Emmanuel Lutheran Church in York and of the Lutheran Laymen League. He had served on several boards at Emmanuel. Denny loved the Lord with his whole heart and cherished his grandchildren and family. He was an avid hunter & fisherman and enjoyed talking with people, gardening, traveling, golfing, card playing and canning pickles.
Dennis is survived by his wife JoeAnne of York; 3 sons, Jeff (Lynda) Staehr of Garland, NE, Matt (JoAnn) Staehr of York and Dale Staehr of York; 4 grandsons, Daniel, Chad & Jordan Staehr all of York and Jace Staehr of Lincoln; 7 brothers, Robert Staehr of Utica, Gerald (Marilyn) Staehr of York, Ronald (CloeAnne) Staehr of York, David (Charlotte) Staehr of Overland Park, KS, Douglas (Vicki) Staehr of Stromsburg, Keith (Cynthe) Staehr of Kimball, NE and Gene (Sandi) Staehr of York; 3 sisters, Dolores (Richard) Bartholomew of Seward, NE, Joyce (Denny) Riekenberg of Hordville, NE and Mary (Scott) Chew of Salinas, CA; many nieces & nephews, his mother-in-law Pauline Opfer of York and brother-in-law Glenn Rathje of York.
Preceding him in death were his parents, sisters Donna Jean Rathje and Elaine Staehr, father-in-law Walter Opfer, brothers-in-law Wayne Opfer and Marvin Rathje, nephew Mark Staehr.
Funeral services were held on Saturday, September 25, 2004 at 10:00 am at the Emmanuel Lutheran Church in York with the Rev. Tim Marshall officiating. Burial was in the St. John’s Lutheran Cemetery south of Waco. Memorials are suggested to the Lutheran Hour Ministries, Orphan Grain Train, Emmanuel/Faith Lutheran School or the family.
