Arlene Splain

Arlene L. Splain C.L.U., age 85 of York, NE died Tuesday, October 4, 2005 at York. She was born July 30, 1920 in rural Waverly, NE to Boyd B. and Barbara H. (Landis) Link. She graduated from Waverly High School in 1938 attended one year at UNL. Arlene worked as the secretary/bookkeeper for Hardy Leggett’s Equitable Insurance Co. for 42 years and was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in York. She was also a member of the V.F.W. Auxiliary, the American Legion Auxiliary, Past Presidents Parley, 8 & 40, Business Professional Women, was a charter member of the Eagles Auxiliary, the Catholic Daughters of America, St. Joseph’s Altar Society, the Yorkshire Playhouse Board of Directors and was a past Yorkfest Queen. In her free time, Arlene enjoyed working crossword puzzles. On December 20, 1945 she was married to Virgil C. Splain in Marysville, KS. She is survived by four sons, Douglas C. Splain and his wife June of Argyle, TX. Erle S.”Squirrel” Splain and his wife Faye of Lincoln, NE Dean W. Splain and his wife Cynthia of Carson City, NV. Paul B. Splain and his wife Carolyn of Thayer, NE Two daughters,Yvonne Schreurs and her husband Brian Gaffney of Cortland, NE SuAnn M. and her husband Greg Strubble of York. 12 Grandchildren and step-grandchildren Numerous great-grandchildren One sister Peggy and her husband Kenneth Daniel of Torrence, CA. One Brother Wayne and his wife Candice Link of Whittier, CA. Sister-in-law, Arvilla Petersen of Atlantic, IA Also surviving are many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband. Funeral services are scheduled for 9:30 a.m., Monday, October 10, 2005 at the Metz Chapel with Father Leo Seiker. Inurnment will be in the Wyuka Cemetery in Lincoln. A Rosary Service will be held at 7:00 p.m., Sunday at the mortuary. Memorials may be directed to the American Heart Association or to St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in York. Arlene’s wish was to be cremated so there will be no viewing or visitation.
