Robert Snyder

Robert J. Snyder, age 91 of York, died Friday, May 20, 2005 at York. He was born March 31, 1914 on a farm near Waco, NE to George and Louise (Barth) Snyder. He was baptized and confirmed in the Peace Lutheran Church in Waco, NE. After graduating from Waco High School in 1931, he toured the Midwest with dance bands and road shows for several years. He hired out on the Burlington Railroad in 1937. From October 23, 1941 to October 25, 1945, Bob served in the United States 13th Air Force in the South Pacific. He was a former member of the 134th Infantry National Guard Band. Bob was married to Velma Roberts in Edgemont, SD on April 11, 1958. He retired as a Conductor from the Burlington Railroad in Alliance, NE. where he and his wife resided for 40 years before moving to York in 1979. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in York, life member of the Veteran of Foreign Wars, member of Masonic Lodge #56 and Order of Eastern Star Grace Chapter #87, American Legion and life member of the Elks. He is survived by his wife, Velma of York; daughter, Ruby (Dick) Coleman of Valentine, NE; grandson, Greg Coleman of Alexandria, VA; granddaughter, Susie Coleman of North Platte, NE; great-grandson, Joshua Guynan and great-granddaughter, Tyrah Spotts both of North Platte. He is also survived by a brother, Jack Snyder of Wray, CO.

Funeral Services were 1:30 p.m. Monday, May 23, 2005 at the First United Methodist Church in York with the Reverend Jeff Wulf officiating. Interment was in York’s Greenwood Cemetery.
