Ruby Smith

Ruby L. Smith, age 93 of Beaver Crossing, NE died Friday, March 28, 2008 at York. She was born December 1, 1914 to E. R. and Myrte Margaret (Ziegler) Biltoft on the family farm near Beaver Crossing. She attended Beaver Crossing Elementary School and graduated from Beaver Crossing High School in 1932. Ruby was united in marriage to Oliver Clifford Huffman, who passed away in 1952 and later married Lloyd Smith, who also passed away in September of 1984.

Ruby worked for the United States Postal Service as a Postal Clerk. She was a member of the Beaver Crossing United Methodist Church, a member of the United Methodist Women, Rebecca’s, and Grange. Ruby enjoyed church activities, gardening, and most of all, spending time with her family.

Left to cherish her memory is daughter Mary Ann Long and husband Gary of Lincoln, NE; son Clifford E. Huffman and wife Patricia of Waco, NE; son Lyle R. Huffman of Litchfield Park, Arizona; grandchildren: Anne M. Huffman Leif and her husband Guy of York; Nanci Huffman Meister and Craig St. Pierre of York; Kimberly Huffman Gocke and Scott Sampley of Millard, NE; Paul and his wife Sherry Huffman of Plattsmouth, NE; Charles Huffman of York; Joni M. Long of Lincoln; Deanna K. Long and Sean McNulty of Lincoln; and Lance R. Long of Chandler, AZ; and great-grandchildren: Lauren and Marilyn Leif of York; Megan and Jonathan Meister of York; Mitchel, Schuyler, and Preston Gocke of Millard, and Chloe Rice Huffman of York.

She is also survived by her sister Lois and her husband Marlen Hohnbaum of Beaver Crossing; two brothers: Max and his wife Marjorie Biltoft of Coco Beach, FL and Russell and his wife Virginia Biltoft of Santa Clara, CA; sister-in-law: Jan Biltoft of Kealakekua, Hawaii; and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends. She was preceded in death be her parents, both husbands, brother Charles Biltoft, and granddaughter Leaina Huffman.

Funeral services were held at 10:00 am, Tuesday, April 1, 2008 at the Beaver Crossing United Methodist Church with the Reverend Betsy Galloway-Carew officiating. Burial followed in the Beaver Crossing Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to Tabitha Hospice or the church.
