Gary L. Smith

Gary Lee Smith, age 64 of York, NE died Monday, November 30, 2009 at his home. He was born October 2, 1945 to Fred and May (Christensen) Smith in Fullerton, NE. On February 29, 1964 Gary was united in marriage to Linda Blow in York. Gary was a professional truck driver who was a member of the Million Miler Club, driving 3 million safe miles, one of the highest safety awards in the industry. He was also a member of the American Trucking Association.

Gary enjoyed all aspects of motor racing, including Figure 8 and Nascar. Most important in his life, however, was his relationship with his family and friends. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend.

Left to cherish his memory is his wife Linda of York, son Curtis Smith and his wife Mary of Lincoln; grandsons Alec, Jordan, and Grayson; siblings: Janet Rose of Lincoln, NE; Jerry (Marilyn) Smith of Dorchester, NE; Sharon (Donald) Taylor of York; and Charlotte (Roger) Wessels of York. Also surviving is brother-in-law Ron (Carolyn) Blow of Lincoln and sisters-in law Sharon Edwards of Concord, NC and Carol Smith of York; many nephews, nieces, and a host of friends

Preceding him in death was an infant son Jeffrey, his parents, and brother Larry.

Funeral services were held at 10:00 am, Friday December 4, 2009 at Metz Chapel with the Reverend Orin Stovall officiating. Burial followed at Greenwood Cemetery, York. Memorials may be directed to the family for later designation.
