Dennis Smart

Dennis W. Smart age 71 of York, NE died Friday April 8, 2011 at Grand Island, NE. He was born July 22, 1939 at Kansas City, MO to John J. and Katherine R. (Ruzicka) Smart. In June of 1960 he was married to Norma Jean Haggard at Kansas City, MO. Dennis was formerly a driver for Crete Carrier for over 25 years and was also a Claims Supervisor in the insurance field as well. An Air Force veteran, he enjoyed woodworking and was a lifetime member of the Handyman Association. He was a man of character with a strong work ethic and loved his family.

He is survived by his wife Norma of York, his daughters Deborah Smart Johnson and her husband Dan of Lead, S.D, Denise Smart Glassburner and her husband Jim of York, his sons; John Wayne Smart of York/Lincoln, NE and Robert Smart and his wife Shelli of York; 11 Grandchildren; and 6 Great Grandchildren. Also surviving is his brother Jack Smart and his wife Linda of Independence, MO and sister Barbara Helvie also of Independence, MO. And many nieces and nephews. He as preceded in death by his parents and a brother-in-law Gary Helvie.

Military Graveside services were held at 1:00 PM, Wednesday, April 13, 2011 at Greenwood Cemetery, York. Memorials may be directed to the Alzheimer’s Association.
