Ernest Sklenar
Ernest J. Sklenar, age 83 of York, died Tuesday, November 8, 2005 at York. He was born July 25, 1922 on a farm near Octavia, NE. to Louis and Josie (Sobotka) Sklenar. He was united in marriage to Marcella J. Smid on May 6, 1947 at David City, NE. Ernest served in the Army, European Theatre, from January of 1943 until December of 1945. He worked for many years as a meat cutter at Bator’s Mini-Mart in York and then was employed at Champion Home Builders in York for 17 years until his retirement in 1989. Ernest was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in York and was an avid hunter and fisherman. He also enjoyed camping and smoking and preserving food.
He is survived by his wife Marcella of York; son, Steven and his wife Mary Sklenar of McCool Jct.; two daughters, Marilyn and her husband Mark Larson of Red Oak, IA., and Nancy Bryant from Oregon; ten grandchildren; five great-grandchildren. Also surviving is a brother, James (Marcella) Sklenar of David City, NE.; three sisters, Kathy Bybee of Salt Lake City, UT., Annie Dietrich of Bellwood, NE. and Nettie Drain of Omaha; sister-in-law, LaQuita Sklenar of Afton, WY. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother Joseph.
Funeral services are scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Saturday, November 12, 2005 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in York with the Reverend Leo Seiker officiating. Military graveside services will follow at St. Joseph’s Cemetery in York. A Rosary service will be held prior to the funeral service on Saturday at 10:00 a.m. at the church. Visitation will begin at 5:00 p.m. Thursday at the mortuary. Memorials may be directed to the family.
