Galen “Gail” A. Shay

Galen “Gail” A. Shay, age 91 of York, died Tuesday, March 23, 2004 at York. He was born May 5, 1912 on a farm near Shelby, NE to James A. and Karoline “Lena” (Beierle) Shay. Gail was married to Vera Harless in 1932 at Shelby and in 1954 married Mary Jeanne Miller at Laramie, WY. He was a retired printer & machinist, having worked for the York Republican and the Torrance Daily Breeze in Torrance, CA. He returned to York in 1995.

Survivors include his 2 daughters; Gloria Bellows of York and Judy (Frank) Eret of Seward, his son Larry (Marilyn) Shay of York; his step-daughter Sandra Betz of Lancaster, CA; 17 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren, 5 great-great grandchildren and his former wife Vera Shay of York. Preceding him in death were his parents and his wife Mary Jeanne.

Funeral services were held at 10:30 am on Saturday, March 27, 2004 at the Metz Chapel in York with the Rev. Kerry Andrews officiating. Graveside services were at 1:30 pm at the Shelby Cemetery.
