Eleanora Schuknecht

Eleanora A. Schuknecht, age 96 of York, died Wednesday, December 02, 2009 at York. She was born July 16, 1913 at York to John and Elizabeth (Larson) Nelson. Eleanora graduated from York High School in 1931. She was united in marriage to Elmer Schuknecht on March 24, 1933 at Grand Island, NE. Following their marriage, Eleanora and Elmer moved to a farm Northwest of Gresham, NE and remained there until Elmer’s death in 1988. While living near Gresham, Eleanora was a member of the Wayland Church and the Wayland Merry Workers. She also served as Sunday School Superintendent. Eleanora then moved to York where she remained until her death. She was a member of the East Avenue United Methodist Church until its closing and was currently a member of the First United Methodist Church in York. She enjoyed embroidery, crocheting, playing cards and spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Eleanora loved to bake and was known for her great pies and cookies.

Survivors include her daughter Jane (Lee) Batterton of York, NE; five grandchildren, Michael (Julie) Wilcox of Coto de Caza, CA, Kathryn Wilcox of Crete, NE, Judy Nienkamp of Nebraska City, NE, Elizabeth (Todd) Mason of Firth, NE and Meredith Ann Nienkamp of Marietta, GA; great grandchildren Sophia Wilcox of Coto de Caza, Jacob Mason and Emily Mason both of Firth, NE. Also surviving is son-in-law Gary Nienkamp of Nebraska City, NE; cousin Aina Wamberg of Wausa, NE; many nieces and nephews; and special friend Gabe McDuffee of Arvada, CO. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, daughter Arlyce Ann Nienkamp; brother Floyd Nelson, sisters, Nelma Conell and Evelyn Campbell.

Funeral services are scheduled for 1:00 p.m., Monday, December 7, 2009 at the Metz Chapel in York with the Reverend Pat Norris officiating. Burial will be in the Blue Ridge Cemetery, Gresham, NE. Visitation will from 1-9 p.m., Saturday and 1-9 p.m. Sunday at Metz Mortuary. The family will greet friends Sunday evening from 7-8:30 p.m. Memorials may be directed to the family for later designation.
