Maynard Schrader
Maynard Franklin Schrader Sr., age 91. of York, NE, died Saturday, October 29, 2011 at Lincoln, NE. He was born May 4, 1920 in Polk, NE to Pete and Anne (Shockey) Schrader. Maynard graduated from high school in Polk, NE. He joined the U.S. Army and served in WWII as a forward observer. He was united in marriage to Inis Ilona Gray on October 21, 1942 in York, NE.
Maynard held various jobs during his lifetime including cowboy in Hyannis, NE, farmer in the Giltner, NE area, manager of grain elevator in Benkelman, NE, builder of the golf course in Imperial, NE, manager of the golf course at the York Country Club, and housing inspector for the State of Nebraska.
He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in York, Elk’s Club, VFW, Eagles Club and the York American Legion. Maynard enjoyed playing golf, fishing, watching old western movies, dancing and shooting pool. He was an avid football fan and especially enjoyed the Nebraska Cornhusker games.
Maynard leaves behind one son, Greg Schrader of York; three daughters, Linda Knisley and her husband George of Goehner, NE, Kim Marie Schrader-Eberspacher and her husband Mark of Lincoln, NE, and Nancy Geis and her husband Doug of Henderson, NE; six grandchildren, Mandy Pauly of York, Shane and wife Bobbi Wiggins of Lincoln, Boe and wife Judy Wiggins of Douglas, NE, Jamie and wife Bonnie Knisley of Goehner, NE, Gavin and wife Molly Geis of Lincoln, and Quinton Geis of Crete, NE; six great-grandchildren, Drake and Barron Wiggins of Lincoln, Alexis and Chase Wiggins of Douglas, Jake Christians of Goehner, and Gabe Knisley of Goehner. Also surviving are five sisters-in-law, Ruth Schrader, Marie Gray, Colene Thomas, Audrey Gray, and Iona Bristol.
Preceding Maynard in death were his parents, wife Inis, son Maynard Franklin “Frankie” Schrader Jr., and grandson Garret Franklin Geis.
Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, November 4, 2011 at the First United Methodist Church in York with the Reverend Art Phillips officiating. Interment was in the Arborville Cemetery, south of Polk, NE.
