Earl Schrader
Earl Troester Schrader, age 79, of York, NE, passed away Monday, November 23, 2009 at York. Earl was born to Raymond and Clara (Troester) Schrader on April 14, 1930 at Hampton, NE. He was baptized at Salem Lutheran church in rural Hampton on May 11, 1930 by Rev. E.R. Frese and confirmed at St. Peters Lutheran Church at Hampton May 14, 1944 by Rev. O.A. Groenber. He graduated from Concordia High School in Seward, NE then attended Concordia University, also in Seward, before transferring to Wayne State College in Wayne, NE. While attending Wayne State, he was drafted into Military duty and served in Okinawa for 18 months during the Korean War. While serving in the Army he was reassigned to a special unit of the 20th Air Force where he served as operations NCO for the 467th SAHCC Company.
On January 23rd, 1955 he married Doris M. Beringer of Octavia, NE, at St. Peters Lutheran church in Hampton. Earl and Doris lived in Hampton where they farmed and raised cattle for 15 years before moving to York, NE in 1980.
In 1968, Earl began a career in agricultural banking that would span 40 years. Starting at Farmers & Traders Bank in Waco, NE and moving in 1980 to York State Bank in York. Earl retired in 1997 as President and Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors for York State Bank. “I can’t think of anything else I’d rather have done…” he said reflecting on his banking career. “One of my goals was to always be happy.”
Earl belonged to the Hampton Fire Department and served 5 years as the Assistant Fire Chief. He is a Life Member of the VFW and the American Legion, Post 19. He served as adjutant for Hampton Post 141; he also served on the Finance Committee and the Treasurer of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church.
Earl is survived by his wife Doris of York; son Tom Schrader and grandson Ryan of Sutton, NE and granddaughter Shelley of Lincoln, NE; son Kent Schrader, his wife Catherine and grandchildren Hannah Schrader and Cailyn and Madelyn Dempsey of Pensacola, FL. Also surviving are brothers-in-law, Francis Beringer and wife Sharon of Omaha, NE, and Lavern Beringer and wife Elaine of Octavia, NE; sisters-in-law, Ann Ropp of Omaha, Evelyn Davis and husband Merlyn of Scottsbluff, Irene Cattani and husband Joseph of Timberlake, OH, Marietta Medinger and husband Wilfred of Henderson, NE, and Barbara Brecka and husband Louis of Octavia, NE. Earl is survived by many nephews, nieces, great nephews and great nieces.
Funeral Services were held at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, November 28, 2009 at the Emmanuel Lutheran Church, York, NE. Burial was at 3:30 p.m. that day at Zion Lutheran Cemetery at Hampton, NE. Memorials may be directed to the family for later designation.
