Victor Schlender
Victor J. Schlender age 78 of York, NE died Thursday, September 18, 2008 at York.
He was born January 8, 1930 in rural Madison, NE to Fred E. and Bertha (Knapp) Schlender. He was a longtime York area mechanic and retired from the State Department of Roads. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean conflict and was a member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church in York, the American Legion Bolton Post #19 and the VFW Post #131 in Lincoln.
On April 5, 1959 he was married to Marlene J. Pflughaupt at York.
He is survived by his wife Marlene of York, four daughters Vickie and her husband Michael Shirey of Glendale, AZ, Donna and her husband Steve Benson of Spencer, NE, Pamela and her husband Mark Walker of Mondamin, IA, and Patrice and her husband David Castleman of Tulsa, OK, and a son Kevin Schlender of York.

One brother Lester and his wife Charlotte Schlender of Battle Creek, IA and a sister Viola Wacker of Battle Creek, NE. Nieces and nephews and a host of friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister Irene Wetjen, two brothers in law Leo Wacker and Archie Wetjen, and an infant brother.
Funeral services were held at 10:00 a.m., Monday, September 22, 2008 at Emmanuel Lutheran Church in York with the Reverends Mike Neidow and Tim Marshall officiating. Military graveside services followed at the Greenwood Cemetery in York.
Memorials may be directed to the church, the American Cancer Society, or Tabitha Hospice.
