Phyllis Scamehorn

Phyllis Scamehorn age 84 of York, NE died Monday, April 12, 2010 at York. She was born May 16, 1925 at Swede Home, NE to Ernest and Edna (Carlson) Carlson and graduated from Stromsburg High School in 1943. She worked as a nanny in the Chicago area as a young lady and was also an Avon representative for several years. Phyllis worked as a telephone operator from 1943 to 1946 after which she was married to Donald Scamehorn in Stromsburg. Phyllis was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in York and the U.P.W., Just-A-Mere Club, 3-L Extension Club and was a past member of the York American Legion Auxiliary Bolton Post #19.

She is survived by her sons; Jack and his wife Nancy Scamehorn and Jay Dee and his wife Sonja Scamehorn all of York, daughters; Jean and her husband Dan Gibb of York, JoAnn and her husband Bruce Waring of Mountain City, TN, Janet and her husband Glen Walsh of York, thirteen grandchildren, eighteen great grandchildren. Also surviving is her brother Dr. Delmar and his wife Zona Carlson of Cherokee, IA and her sister in law Delores Carlson of Stromsburg. Many nieces and nephews as well. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, her son Jerry, two brothers Milburn and Edsel Carlson and her sister Harriet Carlson.

Funeral services were held at 2:00 pm Friday, April 16, 2010 at the First Presbyterian Church in York with the Reverends Mike Eickhoff and Brad Johnson officiating. Burial was in Greenwood Cemetery at York. Memorials may be directed to the family for later designation.
