Norman Savery
Norman T. Savery age 80 of Lincoln, NE died Saturday, August 27, 2011 at Lincoln.
He was born February 17, 1931 at Lincoln, NE to Gilbert T. and Dorothy (Mills) Savery and graduated from York High School in 1949. He served in the Naval Reserves for eight years
Norman was a longtime florist having started working for May’s Nursery in York then moving to Crete, NE in 1959 to own and operate Crete Floral. While in Crete he was very active in the Volunteer Fire Dept serving as Assistant Fire Chief, Fire Chief and training officer. He was also one of Nebraska’s first Emergency Medical Technician and later became an E.M.T. instructor as well. In 1986 he moved his family to West Point, NE
where he sold Fire Equipment for Smeal Fire Equipment Co before retiring to Lincoln in 1996.
On June 17, 1951 he was married to Janet L. Haberman at York.
He is survived by his wife Janet of Lincoln son Kelly Savery of Omaha, NE, his daughters include; Patti and her husband Tom Brunz of Sutherland, NE and Susan and her husband John Hall of Lincoln. Also surviving is a brother Gilbert and his wife Averil Savery of Lincoln. Grandsons include Ryan, Andrew and Timothy Bauer and Jason and Eric Brunz.
Step grandsons; David, Jim, Jeff, Chad and Nick Hall.
Three great granddaughters, nine step-great grandchildren and many other family members and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Millicent Savery and a step great granddaughter Kinzie.
Funeral services were held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, August 31, 2011 at Southminister United Methodist Church in Lincoln. Graveside services were then held at 3:30 p.m., Wednesday at York’s Greenwood Cemetery.
Memorials may be directed to the Crete Fire Department or to the Southminister United Methodist Church in Lincoln.
