Max Sackschewsky
Max Wayne Sackschewsky of Thayer, NE, passed away on August 8, 2010 at his home. He was born on September 18, 1953 to Martin and Fern (Neujahr) Sackschewsky of Thayer. Max was a 1971 graduate of Centennial High School in Utica, NE and a lifelong farmer. On October 6, 1973, he married Diane Meyers of Hampton. They had one child, JoMax. In 1992, Max and Diane opened Max’s Bar in Thayer.
Max was a league trap-shooter for many years. He was also a league bowler throughout his life, known as “huggie bear” to his fellow teammates. Max was an avid hunter. He looked forward to dear and turkey hunting with Lonnie and JoMax in Chadron. He also enjoyed fishing with friends on a regular basis. Max loved a good 7point pitch game, Lincoln Creek rules, of course. Paired with his sister Sharon, they were virtually unbeatable. He liked going to the horse races and watching the ponies run. He enjoyed watching Husker games and drinking a cold beer or an icy Windsor. Max could make anyone laugh and he went to great lengths to do so. He would do and eat anything to make someone smile. His smile and his craziness could ignite a room. He went everywhere and knew everyone. Max made an impression on everyone he met. The world has lost the “life of the party.” Max was one of a kind! Here’s to you Max!!!
We love you and will miss you.
Survivors include his wife Diane and son JoMax of Thayer; two brothers, Lonnie (MaryLou) Sackschewsky of Hartington and Delmar (Rozella) Sackschewsky of Eustis, NE. He also leaves behind many nieces and nephews and many, many friends. Preceding him in death are his parents, Martin and Fern Sackschewsky; sister Sharon Hiett; brothers-in-law, Gary “Buzz” Hiett and Bruce Meyers; and niece Tory Sackschewsky.
As per Max’s wishes, there was no service. Max was buried on Monday, August 9th 2010 in a private family service at Zion Lutheran Cemetery in Thayer. The Reverend Lee Seetin officiated. All memorials may be directed to Zion Lutheran Church in Thayer.
