Fred Rohs
Frederick Aldon (Fred) Rohs, age 88, died September 4th, 2005 in Sun Lakes, Arizona. Mr. Rohs is survived by his wife Esther Rohs of Sun Lakes and four children: Jacqueline Kapsner of Edina, Minnesota, Kathleen Kavaney of New York City, Judith Hodell of Mendanales, New Mexico and Dr. R. Gregory Rohs of Cincinnati, Ohio. He is also survived by eight grandchildren. Mr. Rohs served in the United States Army for over five years during World War II. He spent the early days of the war in the Aleutian Islands defending Alaska and the Northwest from the Japanese. Later he was sent to Europe where he was one of just a handful of soldiers from his squad who made it home alive and well.
Fred Rohs was born in New Salem, North Dakota in 1917 and graduated from New Salem High School. He was an excellent tennis player and played in several state championships. Following World War II Fred moved to York, Nebraska where he owned York Dairy with his brother Ed Rohs. After selling the dairy in 1958 he managed the York Country Club before moving to Western Nebraska. Mr. Rohs joined TRW Electronics and served as a sales manager for plants in McCook and Ogallala. He was also a life long member of the Fraternal Order of Elks and was known by many as a great golfer and wonderful friend. In 1983 Mr. Rohs retired to Sun Lakes where he resided until his death.
Memorial services were held Saturday, June 10, 2006 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in York. Inurnment followed at St. Joseph’s Cemetery in York.
