Herbert Richert

Herbert George Richert of York, went to be with his Lord on November 8, 2011 at the age of 87 years and 5 months. He was born June 8, 1924 in York County to Samuel and Caroline (Heiden) Richert. He was baptized and confirmed in St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, which was once located northeast of York and is now on the York College campus site. Herb received his elementary education at St. Paul’s Lutheran School located northeast of York and was a 1942 graduate of Benedict High School. He then worked for several farmers and at the Cornhusker Ordinance Ammunition Plant west of Grand Island.

In 1947 he met Nadine Allen, a York College student. On May 30, 1948 Herb and Nadine were married in her hometown of Coffeyville, KS. To this union were born a daughter Julia and a son Donald. Herb spent his lifetime farming north of Waco. When retiring, at the age of 69, he and Nadine moved to York.

Herb moved to three different places and as a result, was a member of three Lutheran churches: St Paul’s, northeast of York, Zion at Thayer, and Emmanuel at York. He was an active church member and served in various positions such as chairman, secretary and assisted with adult Bible instruction.

Survivors include daughter, Julia and husband Dr. Charles Boettcher of North Platte, and son Donald Richert and wife Debra of Waco. Grandchildren and great-grandchildren include Jenny (Tim) Higgins and daughter Caraline of Lincoln; Andrew (Jennifer) Richert and children Alexa and Jaxon of Gillette, WY; Kristen (Shawn) Phillips of Omaha; John (Ali) Boettcher and children Emma and Ethan of Portage, MI; and Mark (Ashley) Boettcher of Naperville, IL. Other survivors include brother Paul (Katherine) Richert of Richmond, IN and two sisters, Gertrude Bredehoft of York and Esther (Robert) Ponte of Lincoln. Also surviving are brothers-in-law, Marion (Jeane) Allen of Coffeyville, KS, Bob (Beverly) Allen of Bartlesville, OK, and sister-in-law Norma (Bob) Snider of Coweta, OK, along with many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Herb was preceded in death by his parents, wife Nadine, brother Gerhard, sister-in-law Evelyn Richert, brother-in-law Roland Bredehoft and one infant sister and infant brother.

Funeral services were held at 3:00 pm, Saturday, November 12, 2011 at the Emmanuel Lutheran Church in York. Burial followed at St. Paul’s Cemetery, northeast of York. Memorials may be directed to Emmanuel Lutheran Church Missions or the donor’s choice.
