Kenneth Renquist

Kenneth L. Renquist age 63 formerly of York, NE died Friday, April 17, 2009 at Exeter, NE.He was born August 11, 1945 at Stromsburg, NE to Lyle A. and Dorothy J. (Peterson) Renquist. In his early years Ken obtained his broadcast license and was employed at KAWL radio station in York and then was a typesetter for the York News-Times for over 25 years before retirement.

Ken was formerly a member of the Lutheran and Methodist churches however he recently had attended the Arbor Drive Baptist Church in York. He was a member of the Hastings Amateur Radio Club, was a volunteer driver for the York Busy Wheels, owned Kenfinders Genealogy during the 1980’s and had his own polka band the Jolly Polka Knights for many years. On March 23, 1968 he was married to Vera Albro at York.

He is survived by his son Jeremy Renquist and his fiancé’ Jodi Miller both of Stromsburg, NE, his daughter Jody and her husband Brian Melby of York. His grandchildren include Trevor Renquist of McCool Junction, NE, Jaydon Renquist, Krysta Miller and Kilah Miller all of Stromsburg. Brandon Melby, Brittany Melby, Kailla Melby and Nevaeh Melby all of York. Also surviving is his brother Kermit and his wife Cindy Renquist of York, his step-mother Ruth Wilson of Omaha, NE, a step-sister Rita and her husband Pete Friesen of Hampton, NE, a nephew Darrin Renquist of York, a niece Christy and her husband Johnny Stewart of York and a great nephew Donovan Stewart also of York. NE. He was preceded in death by his parents, his step-father Carl “Bud” Wilson and a step-brother Gary Wilson.

Funeral services were held at 10:00 am Wednesday, April 22, 2009 at the Metz Chapel in York with the Reverend Jeff Wulf officiating. Burial was in the Pleasant Hill cemetery near Benedict, NE. Memorials may be directed to the family for later designation.
