Martha Marie Regier

Martha Marie (Thiessen) Regier, 86, of Henderson, died Monday, June 11, 2012. She was born November 10, 1925 to Henry H. and Anna (Wiens) Thiessen, at their home near Hampton, NE. She was the fourth of seven children.

Martha joined the Henderson Mennonite Brethren Church on October 20, 1940, by Reverend David Hooge. She attended Tabor College for one year, and taught school one year in the District School where she received her first schooling. On June 2, 1946 she was married to Walter Regier in Henderson.

Martha was very involved in the church with many activities. She taught Sunday school, Bible school, was Sunday school superintendent, sang in the choir and ladies choir. She was the district treasurer for W.M.S. She was a member of sewing circle and held many offices.

While living on the farm with Walter, she worked many years in the garden and helping in the field. She drove tractor-auger wagons during harvest, and disking. Even after Walter had died, Martha always took a ride on the combine. On the farm and in town after retirement, Martha always had a vast and diverse garden with many vegetables and strawberries that she would can and preserve each year. Every year she would be busy cooking and preparing delicious meals for family gatherings each Thanksgiving, Christmas, and Easter. All of her grandchildren loved to eat some of her delicious cookies and pies.

Martha is survived by three sons, Russell and Nancy Regier of Henderson, Keith and Jolene Regier of Kalispell, MT, and Kenton and Jean Regier of Henderson; nine grandchildren, Bryan and Kelly Regier of Hyannis, NE, Jay Regier of Henderson, Lori and Keith Meyer of Tampa, KS, Nicole and Ryan Dente of Henderson, Amy Regier of Kalispell, Matthew Regier of Kalispell, Katie and Brett Bollweg of Whitefish, MT, Abigail Regier of Henderson, and Brenton Regier of Henderson; ten great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister Bernice Nachtigal of Fresno, CA; brothers, Melvin and Dorothy Thiessen of Fresno, CA, Wilmer and Hildegard Thiessen of Hillsboro, KS, and Virgil and Nelda Thiessen of Henderson; many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Anna Thiessen; husband Walter; brother Herbert and Mary Thiessen; sister Linda (Leonard) Kliewer; brother-in-law Dan Nachtigal.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, June 16, 2012 at the Mennonite Brethren Church in Henderson. Burial will be in the Mennonite Brethren Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1-9 p.m., Thursday and all day Friday at Metz Mortuary, Henderson, NE. The family will be present to greet friends Friday evening from 7-8:30. Memorials may be directed to M.C.C. or Grace Children’s Home.
