Omer Reetz
Omer E. Reetz age 86 of York, NE died Saturday, February 23, 2008 at York.
He was born November 28, 1921 at Thayer, NE to Otto and Clara (Nolte) Reetz.
After graduating from Thayer High School he farmed with his father and later farmed on his own for 15 years. After leaving the farm he worked for Albert Tietmeyer helping with the farming and working in Albert’s Welding Shop during the winter months. He moved his family to York in 1966 and began working for the York Mill & Elevator. When the dust began affecting his health he went to work for Central States & Supplies retiring in 1997. He also helped Raymond Reetz with various projects after that as well. He was an active member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church in York, where he held numerous offices including: Sunday School Superintendent, Church Treasurer, and Walther League Sponsor. Omer loved his family and was always a very loving husband and father. Gardening was his passion and family members and friends were always happy to receive the benefits of his green thumb. In early years, Omer and Mildred enjoyed their card party group and dancing at the Flying V and other dance halls.
On April 28, 1949 he was married to Mildred A. Steinmeyer at Wisner, NE.
Omer and Mildred joined each other in eternity just one day apart.
Omer is survived by his four children: Barbara (John) Hoffman of Polk, NE; Marj (Tom) Zwick of Seward, NE; Gene Reetz of York; and Judy (Tom) Dahlgren of Lincoln, NE; thirteen grandchildren: Greg (Misty) Hoffman of Polk; Jennifer Hoffman of Polk; Scott Hoffman of Lincoln; Amy (Mark) Berggren of Omaha, NE; Chad (Renee) Zwick of Wahoo, NE; Darin Zwick of Seward; Kristen Zwick of Seward; Christopher (Emilye) Reetz of Montana; Atlee Reetz of York; Brooks Reetz of Lincoln; Spencer Reetz of Ohiowa, NE; Jerod (Tanya) Dahlgren of New York; and Eric Dahlgren of Lincoln; six great-grandchildren: Tyler, Katelyn, and Ashlee Hoffman of Polk, Carlee and Adelyn Zwick of Wahoo, and Ava Zwick of Seward; many nieces and nephews; and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Mildred, his brothers Otto Vern (Butch) Reetz, Victor Reetz and his sisters Aurelia Scheele and Arlene Reetz.
Omer’s funeral service was held in conjunction with his wife’s service at 2:00 pm Monday, February 25, 2008 at Emmanuel Lutheran Church in York with the Reverends Tim Marshall and Mike Neidow officiating. Interment followed in York’s Greenwood Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the church or to the family.
