Mildred A. Reetz
Mildred Ann Martha Reetz, age 78 of York, NE died Friday, February 22, 2008 at York. She was born May 6, 1929 at Wisner, NE to Carl and Hattie (Luedtke) Steinmeyer. She was then baptized on May 26, 1929 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Wisner and later confirmed there April 2, 1944. Mildred was a graduate of District 66 Cuming Co. School on May 23, 1942. On April 28, 1949, Mildred was united in marriage to Omer E. Reetz At St. Paul’s.
After Mildred and Omer married, she helped with the farming in the early years. From 1965-1985 she worked at the Holland House Café, then at Willard Elementary School until 1989, and finally she helped cater for Chances R restaurant up until her death. Mildred was an active member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church in York, in which she was a member of the women’s circle, helped with Sunday School, ice cream socials, and many other activities. She enjoyed gardening, cooking, and meeting up with friends for coffee. She cherished the time spent with her family. Mildred was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother and will be sorely missed.
Left in her memory is her husband Omer of York; four children: Barbara (John) Hoffman of Polk, NE; Marj (Tom) Zwick of Seward, NE; Gene Reetz of York; and Judy (Tom) Dahlgren of Lincoln, NE; thirteen grandchildren: Greg (Misty) Hoffman of Polk; Jennifer Hoffman of Polk; Scott Hoffman of Lincoln; Amy (mark) Berggren of Omaha, NE; Chad (Renee) Zwick of Wahoo, NE; Darin Zwick of Seward; Kristen Zwick of Seward; Christopher (Emilye) Reetz of Montana; Atlee Reetz of York; Brooks Reetz of Lincoln; Spencer Reetz of Ohiowa, NE; Jerod (Tanya) Dahlgren of New York; and Eric Dahlgren of Lincoln; and six great-grandchildren: Tyler, Katelyn, and Ashlee Hoffman of Polk, Carlee and Adelyn Zwick of Wahoo, and Ava Zwick of Seward.
She is also survived by four siblings: Inez (Herman) Quiring of Henderson, NE; Arnold Steinmeyer of Rosalie, NE; Helen (Arlen) Lierman of Beemer, NE; and Robert (Cathy) Steinmeyer of Wisner.; as well as, a host of many nieces, nephews, and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents and three sisters: Esther Doffin, Beata Stillman, and Mabel Heineman.
Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m., Monday, February 25, 2008 at Emmanuel Lutheran Church in York with the Reverend Tim Marshall and Mike Neidow officiating. Interment followed in York’s Greenwood Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the church or to the family.
