Bertha Quiring
Bertha Quiring, age 94, of Henderson, NE died Thursday, February 11, 2010 at Henderson. She was born on January 2, 1916 at Henderson to John and Helena (Peters) Dick. Bertha graduated from Henderson High School in 1934 and attended John Fletcher College in Iowa for two years. She was united in marriage to John Quiring on December 27, 1940 at Henderson. The union was blessed with five children, Carol, Elaine, John R., Mary, and Janet. John and Bertha lived on a farm in the Hampton area until their retirement. Bertha was a member of the Mennonite Brethren Church in Henderson. She belonged to the Women’s Missionary Circle and enjoyed quilting, gardening, needlework and playing table games, especially Scrabble.
Left to cherish her memory is her son, John R. (Helen) Quiring of Hampton; daughters, Carol (John) Dick of Hillsboro, KS, Elaine (Larry) Nikkel of Hillsboro, KS, and Janet (John) Thiessen of Inman, KS. She is also survived by 14 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and a son-in-law Gary Wiens of Seattle, WA.
Preceding her in death were her parents, husband, daughter Mary, brothers, Henry, Gus, George, Bill, and John, and sisters, Lena Epp and Mary Barkman.
Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m., Monday, February 15, 2010 at the Mennonite Brethren Church in Henderson with the Reverend J. Epp officiating. Burial followed at the M.B. Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to Tabor College or Grace Children’s Home.
