Helen Pohl

Helen Viola Pohl age 81 of York, NE died Monday, March 15, 2010 at Seward, NE. She was born October 6, 1928 at rural Thayer, NE to Otto and Emma (Schoeneck) Heine and was a York High School graduate. Helen was an active member of Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church at Thayer where she was baptized on October 28, 1928 and confirmed on May 17, 1942. On July 26, 1953 she was married to Erwin R. Pohl at Thayer.

Helen was a longtime seamstress having worked at Freddie’s Fabric’s and Gingham Corner in York for many years. She was a member of the LWML and the Ladies Aid. She enjoyed sewing, making wood crafts, animals, especially her cats and spending time with her family.

She is survived by her three daughters: Deanna and her husband Dave Sipp of Lincoln, NE; Susan Tomlinson and her special friend Randy Jenkins of Seymour, MO; and Janelle and her husband John Medinger of York; six grandchildren; and ten great grandchildren. Also surviving are two sisters: Esther Sackschewsky of York and Arlene Joseph of Hampton, NE; two brothers Herb Heine of Stromsburg, NE and Walt and his wife Lucille Heine of York; a sister in law Marie Heine also of York; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Erwin in March of 2008 and her two brothers George and Mart.

Funeral services were held at 10:30 am Friday, March 19, 2010 at Zion Lutheran Church at Thayer with the Reverend Lee Seetin officiating with burial in Zion Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the family for later designation.
