Evelyn Pohl

Evelyn Marie Pohl (age 94) of Hampton, NE died Thursday, September 15, 2011 at the Hamilton Manor in Aurora, NE. She was born December 12, 1916 at Hampton, NE to John Herman and Olga (Madsen) Hansen and was a member of St Peter’s Lutheran Church at Hampton. On May 5, 1944, she married Arthur Pohl at Immanuel Evangelical Church, Hampton, NE.

Evelyn was a member of St. Peter’s Ladies Aid and a charter member of the Hampton American Legion Auxiliary #141. She worked as a Post Office clerk in the Hampton Post Office from 1958 to her retirement in 1978. She enjoyed playing cards and spending time with the Hampton Senior Citizens group, she was also a volunteer at the Stuhr Museum in Grand Island, NE and Plainsman Museum in Aurora, NE.

She is survived by two sons: Douglas and his wife Judy Pohl of Omaha, and Calvin Pohl of Omaha. There are also two grandchildren: Michael and his wife Wendy Pohl, and Christine and her husband Jason Bailey. She was also blessed with a great-grandchild, Maylin Pohl. Also surviving are three brothers: E.H. “Bud” and his wife Maxine Hansen of Hampton, Neil Hansen of Shawnee Mission, KS, and Larry and Eunice Hansen of Hampton; one sister: Janelle and her husband Martin (Pete) Petersen of Omaha, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and her sisters: Donna Kamtz, Frances Danielson and M. Lorraine Bamesberger

Funeral services were held at 2:00 PM, Tuesday, September 20.2011 at St Peter’s Lutheran Church, Hampton, NE with the Reverend Kurt Letcher officiating. Burial was in the Hampton Public Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, Hampton, NE 68843.
