Erwin Pohl
Erwin R. Pohl age 78 of York, NE was called to his heavenly home Friday, March 28, 2008 at York after a courageous battle with cancer.
He was born April 16, 1929 in York County, NE to Ferdinand and Elizabeth (Gertner) Pohl and graduated from Benedict High in 1947. Erwin was a longtime farmer and dairyman in the Thayer area until 1980 when he retired from farming and was then employed at Mead Lumber in York until 1995. He was a lifelong active member of Zion Lutheran Church at Thayer serving in many positions including elder. Erwin enjoyed woodworking, making crafts, was an Archer Oil dealer for over 30 years and was a member of the Thayer Cemetery Association.
On July 26, 1953 he was married to Helen Heine at Thayer.
He is survived by his wife Helen of York. Three daughters; Deanna and her husband Dave Sipp of Lincoln, NE, Susan Tomlinson and her friend Randy Jenkins both of Seymour, MO and Janelle and her husband John Medinger of York;
Six grandchildren; and nine great grandchildren.
Also surviving are two sisters; Loretta and her husband Dave Johnson of York and Leola Van Ostrand of Virginia Beach, VA.; and nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Derald and his brother in law Richard Van Ostrand.
Funeral services were held at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 2, 2008 at the Zion Lutheran Church at Thayer with the Reverend Lee Seetin officiating. Burial was in the Zion Cemetery with memorials being directed to the Lutheran Hour or to the family.
