Lloyd Piper
Lloyd Raymond Piper, age 91, of York, NE died Thursday, December 29, 2011 at York. He was born May 23, 1920 at Broken Bow, NE to Emmett and Vida (Spencer) Piper. Lloyd was a 1938 graduate of Broken Bow High School and attended the Academy of Accounting in Omaha for two years.
He entered the US Army in May of 1942 and was honorably discharged in August of 1945. He served in the European Theatre, Africa, Italy, France and Germany and was awarded the Bronze Star. Lloyd was united in marriage to Gladys Ohm on November 18, 1945 in Omaha. The couple lived in Omaha, Prairie Village, KS, Medfield MA, and Burlingame, CA. Lloyd was the Financial Manager for General Electric where he retired in 1978. Lloyd and Gladys moved to York in 1989. He was a member of Faith Lutheran Church in York and a member of the York Country Club for ten years.
Lloyd is survived by his son: Richard (Diane) Piper of Coppell, TX; daughter-in-law Cheryl Piper of Wellsville, UT; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; one brother Rodger of Green Valley, CA; and one sister, Betty (Robert) Ellingson of Ohio. Preceding him in death were his parents, wife Gladys, son Doug, one grandson, and three brothers, Glenn, Verl, and George.
Services were held at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, January 3. 2012 at Faith Lutheran Church in York with the Reverend Allen Bergstrazer officiating. Interment was in York’s Greenwood Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to Faith Lutheran Church.
