Loren Pieper
Loren A. Pieper age 87 of York, Nebraska died Saturday, December 1, 2007 at Fairmont, NE.
Loren was born May 20, 1920 in Seward County, Nebraska near Goehner to Edwin and Henrietta (Knorr) Pieper. He graduated from Goehner High School and worked for his father in the plumbing business in Goehner.
Loren served in the US Armed Forces during World War II and was stationed in France and Germany. He married Erma Barth on August 12, 1941 and was the father of three children: L. Allen, Linda and Jane.
Loren moved to York in 1946 where he was an active member of the community for many years. He and his wife founded a plumbing and well drilling business Pieper Water Service in 1948. In 1965 the Piepers moved to McPherson, Kansas where they operated a Coast-to-Coast hardware store for five years. In 1970 they returned to York where they operated Pieper’s Tru Value Hardware until their retirement in 1984.
Loren served on the York City Council in the early 1960’s. He was also an active member of the York Chamber of Commerce (serving one term as president), the Lion’s Club International, the Veterans of Foreign Wars, the American Legion, Emmanuel Lutheran Church and the Lutheran Laymen’s League.
Loren had resided at the Fairview Manor in Fairmont since 2006.
Survivors include his wife Erma (Barth) of Fairmont; one son L. Allen (Becky) Pieper of York; two daughters: Linda (Greg) Petrillo of Seattle, WA and Jane (Rich) Condon of Omaha; three grandsons: Nicholas (Kristy) Pieper of York, Jeffrey Pieper also of York and Carl Petrillo of Los Angeles, CA; one great grandson Carsen Pieper; a step granddaughter Tara (John) Homolka of York; step great grandchildren include: Whitley and Wylder Homolka; one sister Norma Ahlschwede of Norfolk; and a brother Wayne Pieper of York.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers Lester Pieper and Lloyd Pieper.
Services were held Tuesday, December 4, 2007 at Emmanuel Lutheran Church in York. Military graveside services followed at Greenwood Cemetery in York.
