Ardean Peters

Ardean James “A.J.” Peters, 68, of York, NE, passed away on Tuesday, March 23, 2010 in Henderson, NE. He was born on January 29, 1942 in Henderson to Abraham R. and Olga (Penner) Peters. He graduated from Hampton High School in 1961, where he was an accomplished athlete and broke state records in track. Growing up he was a member of Bethesda Mennonite Church and was baptized on May 25, 1958. He served in the National Guards for several years and retired as a First Sergeant.

Ardean and Bette Tonniges were united in marriage on April 10, 1965 and they would have celebrated their 45th wedding anniversary this year. They lived near Benedict, NE where Ardean was a successful farmer. He enjoyed his life with raising his family and his passion for farming. In 2008 he became a real estate developer in York with the development known as Peters Sunrise Estates.

Ardean was a member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church in York and served on several boards. He also belonged to the Sunrise Sertoma group and delighted in making the soup for the annual fund raiser for many years. He loved being with his friends while partaking in fishing, hunting, golfing, and bowling.

He is survived by his wife Bette of York; son Garet and his wife Traci Peters of York; daughters, Lisette Liudahl and her husband Eric of Omaha, NE and Stacey Michels and her husband Mark of McCool Junction, NE; and five grandchildren. Also surviving is his mother, Olga Peters of Henderson; brother Myron Peters and his wife Janet of Hampton, NE; his sister Maureen Lee of Ashville, NC; sister Lila Koop and her husband Jim of Wallace, NE, brother Harris Peters of Henderson, NE; and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held at 10:30 p.m., Saturday, March 27, 2010 at Emmanuel Lutheran Church, York, with the Reverend Mike Neidow officiating. Interment was in York’s Greenwood Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the family for later designation.
