Mary Penner
Mary H. Penner age 83 of York, NE died Saturday, August 14, 2010 at York.
She was born October 8, 1926 at Las Vegas, New Mexico to Henry and Helen (Stobbe) Richert and graduated from Colony High School in Colony Oklahoma in 1945. She went on to obtain her nursing degree from Bethel College in Newton, KS. On March 9, 1952 she was married to Richard G. Penner at Hillsboro, KS.
Mary was a registered nurse at Beatrice Mennonite Hospital until she and Richard moved their family to York, NE in 1972. She was employed at York General Hospital as an RN for over 20 years and then worked at the Hearthstone for some time after her retirement. She was an active member of First Presbyterian Church in York and enjoyed growing flowers, gardening, sewing and was an avid reader. She took great pride in raising her children and taking care of her family and friends. Mary was a true asset to the hospital and to her community.
She is survived by her husband Richard of York, her daughter Susan and her husband Greg Weber of Bradshaw, NE, her sons Stan and his wife Jamie Penner of Gunter, TX, Scott Penner of Corinth, TX and her daughter Sharri and her husband Mike Coffey of Woodston, KS.
Her grandchildren include Rick Robertson of New York, N.Y, Kai Robertson of Chicago, IL, Rayne Robertson of Superior, CO, Jessica Burns of Boston, MA, John Weber of Scottsdale, AZ, Maggie Troester of York, Chelsea Penner of Gunter, TX, Austin Penner also of Gunter, TX, Brandon Coffey of Seward, NE, Breckin Coffey also of Seward, Sage Penner of Woodston, KS, Kian Coffey and Quinn Coffey also of Woodston.
Also surviving are 11 great grandchildren and her sisters; Eva Nikkel of Corn, OK, Rosa Eileen Peck of Wichita, KS and Esther Funk of Ottawa, KS.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her brothers; Melvin, Ernest, David and Ivan Richert. Her sister Betty in infancy and her sister Selma Vickers.
Memorial services were August 17, 2010 at the First Presbyterian Church in York. Private family inurnment will take place at a later time at the First Mennonite Church Cemetery in Beatrice, NE. It was Mary’s wish to be cremated so there was no viewing or visitation. Memorials may be directed to York General Hearthstone or to the family for later designation.
