Betty Ostrom
Betty June (Henry) Ostrom, age 89 of York, NE died Sunday, June 3, 2012 at York. She was born May 24, 1923 at Murray, Cass County, Nebraska to Raymond Herbert and Grace Agnes (Burton) Henry. After a few years the family moved to Plattsmouth, NE, where she attended school, graduating from Plattsmouth High School in 1941. On March 22, 1973, Betty was united in marriage to John Keith Ostrom at the First United Methodist Church in Plattsmouth.
Over the years she worked in Plattsmouth at Kent’s Café, the Ford Motor Co, and the Steve Davis Insurance Agency. She also served as secretary/treasurer for the First United Methodist Church. After getting married, and due to John’s work, they moved to Wahoo, NE where Betty worked for Farmer’s Mutual Insurance Co. Later, John was transferred to York, NE.
Betty and John enjoyed fishing, traveling, and spending winters in Texas. Betty was a loving and caring person and will hold a special place in the hearts of her family and all that knew her. She was a long time giver of Christmas and Birthday gifts to and nieces and nephews. For many years, she took loving care of her mother and enjoyed providing a place for family to gather for many happy times. Betty will be missed.
She is survived by her husband John of York; sister-in-law Nettie Alma Henry formerly of Plattsmouth; step-children: Kathy and her husband Tim Younker of Yuma, Arizona, Peggy Markham of Burley, Idaho, and Johnny Ostrom and his wife Penny of Omaha, NE; and many nieces, nephews, grandnieces, and grandnephews.
Preceding her in death were her parents, two sisters: Ireta M (Wood) Haverkamp and Grace Viola (Eledge) Fulton; and seven brothers: Franklin Burton Henry, Raymond R. Henry, Marion J. Henry, Darwood C. “Woodie” Henry, Charles R. “Chuck” Henry, Glen P. Henry, and Kenneth D. Henry.
Funeral services were held Thursday, June 7, 2012 at the Metz Chapel in York
with the Reverend Art Phillips officiating Burial followed at York’s Greenwood Cemetery.
Memorials may be directed to the Alzheimer’s Association, York Public Schools Back Pack Program or the
First United Methodist Church in York.
