LaVern L. Ochsner

LaVern L. Ochsner age 80 of York, died Tuesday, January 27, 2004 at York. He was born February 25, 1923 at Saronville, Nebraska to Adam and Caroline (Trautman) Ochsner. LaVern was employed at Gambles in York for 3 years before working at General Foods, based in Grand Island, for several years. On August 24, 1947 he was married to Irene L. Sackschewsky at Thayer, NE. For the next 16 years LaVern farmed at Thayer and Benedict then purchased Vern’s Frontier Service in York. It was later changed to Vern’s Husky Service. He then went to work at the Pork Plant here in York until his retirement in 1987. Following retirement LaVern and his wife moved to Columbus, NE. After Irene’s death in 1994 he moved back to York. A World War II veteran, he was a member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church in York, the York V.F.W. and the York American Legion Bolton Post #19. He enjoyed spending time with his family as well as gardening, cooking, and playing cards.

He is survived by three sons, Dennis and his wife Carol Ochsner of Laurel, NE., Doug and his wife Sue Ochsner of Maxwell, NE., David and his wife Kimberly Ochsner of Geneva, NE: three daughters, Joyce and her husband Dale Wittgren of Stromsburg, NE., Jean and her husband Dan Farnham of Elkhorn, NE., Janice and her husband Randy Ediger of Hampton, NE.; seventeen grandchildren; two step-grandsons; eight great-grandchildren Also surviving is a brother Raymond Ochsner of York and a sister Thelma Kalberg of Hastings. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife and two grandsons

Funeral Services were Friday, January 30, 2004 at Emmanuel Lutheran Church in York with the Rev Arthur Brinkmeyer. Military Graveside Services were held at Greenwood Cemetery in York.
