Rex Obermier
Rex V. Obermier, age 74 of York, died Friday, December 15, 2006 at York. He was born on June 9, 1932 to Walter and Anna (Finke) Obermier at Waco, NE. He was baptized into the Christian faith on July 11, 1932 and confirmed on March 25, 1945 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Waco. Rex represented the United States of America as a member of the Army, serving in the Korean War. He was manager of Champion Home Builders for 27 years and retired as a carpenter.
On June 9, 1956 he was united in marriage to Marian Nielson at Stromsburg, until she died in May of 1976. Rex was then married to Myrna (Landenberger) Brackhan at Emmanuel Lutheran Church in York on July 15, 1978.
Rex was a member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church in York, where he was a church elder and a member of the parish board. He was inclined to find a deck of cards and belonged to a couple of card clubs. He was an outdoorsman, enjoying activities such as hunting, golfing, and bike riding. Every June, he and his family vacationed at Lake Okoboji. Rex valued the time spent with his family, especially his grandchildren.
Left to cherish his memory is his wife Myrna of York; eight children: Anita and her husband Steve Hall of York, Debra Brackhan of York, Doug and his wife Lori Obermier of Omaha, NE, Teresa and her husband Joe Fagan of Hampton, NE, Laurie and her husband Roy Houdersheldt of Shelby, NE, Greg and his wife Kim Brackhan of Spanish Fort, Alabama, Becky and her husband Dean Crawford of York, and Chris and his wife Melissa Obermier of Thornton, Colorado; 21 grandchildren; and 4 great grandchildren. Also surviving are two brothers: Virgil and his wife Vivian Obermier of York and Bill and his wife Shirley Obermier of Waco; and one sister Reola Brahmsteadt of Garden Prairie, Illinois; and many nieces and nephews. His parents, his first wife Marian, four brothers, and three sisters preceded him in death.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, December 19, 2006, at Emmanuel Lutheran Church in York. Private family interment was held at Zion Lutheran Cemetery in Hampton. Memorials may be directed to Emmanuel Lutheran School or the American Cancer Society.
