Helen O'Brien
Helen E. O’Brien, age 97 of York, NE, died Monday, December 14, 2009 at York. She was born October 4, 1912 at Cordova, NE to George and Johanna (Hanneman) Frank. Helen was united in marriage to Thomas T. O’Brien on October 14, 1936 at Lincoln, NE. Helen worked at a number of places in York including, Soukup’s Hardware Store, Chapman’s Clothing Store and VerVan’s Clothing Store. She worked in Lincoln at Hovland Swanson’s Clothing Store until her retirement. Helen was a former member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Lincoln and currently a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in York. She was a member of the Alter Society and the Bible with Lunch group at St. Joseph’s. Helen always enjoyed having coffee with friends and shopping. She also looked forward to her trips to Texas to visit her daughter.
Left to cherish Helen’s memory are her daughters, Carolyn “Rosie” Kopcho of York and Judi (Tom) Samson of Coppell, TX; grandchildren Paul (Denise) Kopcho, Rod (Vicky) Kopcho, Tom (Amie) Kopcho all of York, Phil (Monica) Samson of Coppell, Tim (Julie) Samson of Houston, TX, and Chris (Bonnie) Samson of Flower Mound, TX; great grandchildren, Kelsey Kopcho of Lincoln and fiancé Jeff Pieper of York, Kinsley, Ethan, Keith, Allison, and Jacob Kopcho all of York, Jordan Samson, José Moran, and Monica Moran of Coppell, Katie, Kyle Samson and Kellie Samson of Houston, TX, Jacob Samson and Luke Samson of Flower Mound. Helen is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, infant daughter, Mary Helen, son-in-law Lee, brother Ernest and an infant brother.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, December 19, 2009 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in York with the Father Mark Tasler officiating. Private family interment will be at St. Joseph’s Cemetery in York. A Rosary will be said Friday evening at 6:00 p.m., at the mortuary.
Visitation will be from 5-9 p.m., Thursday and 9 a.m.-9 p.m., Friday at Metz Mortuary. Memorials may be directed to St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, York, NE.
