Rita Claire (Edwards) Norquest, 92, of Rural York, died Friday, May 13, 2005 in York. She was born on June 29, 1912 in Ruskin, Nebraska to Harry and Daisy (Dixon) Edwards. As a young child her family moved to Wyoming where her father homesteaded. They later returned to Ruskin where Rita graduated from Ruskin High School in 1931. After attending Hastings Business College, she moved to York where she worked at the Chambers Cafe. She married Albert Norquest January 15, 1936 in York. Together they farmed in York County and raised 3 sons; Jack Delano, Don Albert, and Curtis LeRoy. Rita was a member of First Evangelical Lutheran Church in McCool Junction. She was a member of the Neighborhood Birthday Club. She enjoyed quilting, traveling, especially to Texas in the winter, was an avid gardener and loved to can. She enjoyed sports of all kinds, especially baseball and loved to watch her great grandkids on the local diamonds as well as the Atlanta Braves on TV.

Survivors include her 2 sons Don and his wife Bernace of York, Curtis of York, daughter-in-law Barbara Norquest of York, 6 grandchildren, and 11 great grandchildren. Also surviving are one brother, Randall (Mary Ellen) Edwards of Lakeland, FL, sister Ruth Cota of Phillipsburg, KS and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Albert, son Jack, 2 brothers Robert and Ralph, 1 granddaughter and 1 great-grandson.

Funeral services were held on Monday, May 16, 2005 at 11:00 am at the First Evangelical Lutheran Church at McCool Jct. with the Rev. Dick Woolard officiating. Burial was in the York Greenwood Cemetery.
