Justina Friesen Norquest, age 92 of Henderson, NE died, Thursday, May 22, 2008 at Henderson. She was born on July 29, 1915 to George P. and Magaretha (Quiring) Friesen near Henderson, NE. Justina was the third of four children. She attended District 62 School near Henderson and graduated from Henderson High School.
At a young age, Justina accepted Christ as her personal Savior. She was baptized on June 10, 1935 by Rev. A.W. Friesen and was a lifelong, faithful member of Bethesda Mennonite Church. Justina taught small children in Sunday School for many years and enjoyed it very much. She was a member of Mission Circle and used her abilities to serve others.
In her young adult years, Justina worked and served many families in the area by assisting with household duties and childcare. On September 28, 1950 Justina Friesen married Wilbur W. (Pete) Norquest at Bethesda Mennonite Church. They farmed in the McCool area for five years and then moved to York, Nebraska. Upon moving to York, Justina was employed as a Nurseís Aide at the York General Hospital for 13 years, lovingly providing care for those who were hospitalized.
In the early 70ís Justina and Pete moved to a home on 15th Street in Henderson. Since they had no children of their own, they particularly enjoyed their great nieces and nephews. Justina was happy to bake cookies and share candy and hugs with those who came by. She will always be remembered for her ability to cook and she shared this at many family gatherings.
Pete and Justina enjoyed living at Midtown Manor and at the Henderson Care Center in their latter years. The family is grateful for their wonderful experience they had at Midtown Manor and the dedicated and caring staff at the Henderson Care Center.
Preceding her in death were her parents, her husband Pete, her brothers Henry C., Harvey, and Alden G. Those surviving include sisters-in-law Martha (Harvey) Friesen, and Geraldine (Alden) Friesen, both of Henderson; and many nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, May 27, 2008 at the Bethesda Mennonite Church in Henderson, Nebraska with the Reverends Rachel Friesen and Weldon Martens officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery. Memorials may be directed to Campus Crusade for Christ or the Bethesda Radio Fund.
