Delbert Norquest

Delbert L. Norquest age 76 of York, NE died Sunday, October 15, 2006 at York. He was born August 2, 1930 at York to Harold and Hilma (Smith) Norquest and graduated from York High School in 1947. He was a member of the First Evangelical Lutheran Church in McCool Jct and formerly owned and operated Del’s Frontier in York for several years. Then in 1961 Delbert and his brother Burton formed Norquest Brothers where they farmed in York and McCool Jct until his retirement in 2005. Delbert loved being in the combine at harvest time and especially enjoyed being around his grandchildren. Delbert served in the National Guard and had an amazing talent for performing calculations and solving farm problems in his head without using a calculator or pencil. On April 26, 1953 he was married to Margery R. Grueter in McCool Jct.

He is survived by his wife Margery of York, a son Kent and his wife JoAnn Norquest of York and a daughter Dr. Janalee Norquest – Liegner and her husband Dr. Jeffrey Liegner of Newton, N.J. Five grandchildren; Sarah Norquest and Michele Norquest both of York and Kitts Liegner, Adam Liegner and Jameson Liegner all of Newton, N.J. Also surviving is his brother Burton Norquest of York and a sister Marcella McClain of Hereford, TX. Many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister in law Nancy Norquest and a brother in law Kenneth McClain.

A Memorial service was held Wednesday, October 18, 2006 at the First Evangelical Lutheran Church in McCool Jct with the Reverend Jennifer Zahnow officiating. Delbert’s body was cremated so there were no graveside services. Memorials may be directed to Association for the Blind.
