Erwin "Butch" Nienhueser
Erwin A. “Butch” Nienhueser age 88 of York died Thursday, November 30, 2006 at York. He was born July 2, 1918 at Benedict, NE to Frank and Amalia (Alms) Nienhueser. He was confirmed at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church north of York, NE and was a graduate of Benedict High School. Butch served in the U.S. Army in World War II and was united in marriage to Dorothy Graff on September 1, 1946 at the Emmanuel Lutheran Church in York where he was currently a member. He farmed in the Benedict area for over 40 years and raised dairy cattle as well. Butch and Dorothy moved from the family farm to York when they retired. Butch was an active community member having served on the school board, various church boards and the Farmer’s Cooperative Board of Directors. He was a member of the Farm Bureau and the York American Legion. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.
He is survived by his wife Dorothy of York; four children: Gary Nienhueser and his wife Vicky of Benedict, Sandy Doremus and her husband Randy of York, Cheryl Nienhueser of Houston, TX, and Terry Nienhueser and his wife Sue of York; seven grandchildren: Corey Nienhueser and his wife Ellison of Stromsburg, NE, Craig Nienhueser of Benedict and his friend Dawn Gocke of Stromsburg, Amy Williams and her husband Mike of Bertrand, NE, Travis Nienhueser and his wife Lorelei of Manhatten, KS, Keri Johnson and her husband Curt of Crete, NE, Michael Doremus and his wife Nikki of Hastings, NE and Hayley Nienhueser of York; twelve great-grandchildren: Taylor, Treyton, Talia and Treven Nienhueser all of Stromsburg; Devin, Colton and Logan Johnson of Crete; Jacob, Connor,and Reagan Williams of Bertrand; Kaden Nienhueser of Manhatten, and Marley Doremus of Hastings. He is also survived by his sisters, Erna Nienhueser of York and Leitha Prochnow of Seward, NE and a host of friends and relatives. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers Ernest and Amos.
Funeral services were held December 4, 2006 at the Emmanuel Lutheran Church in York with the Reverend Tim Marshall officiating. Interment was in York’s Greenwood Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the family.
