Virginia Newman

Virginia Arlene Newman, age 85, of York, died Monday, April 10, 2006 at York. She was born in York on July 3, 1920 to Harry Samuel and Magdaline Gertrude (Kahler) Lakin. Virginia was clerk of the York County Court for many years and then Associate County Judge from 1973 until her retirement in 1985. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in York and had been a member and past president of the Business & Professional Women and was a lifelong avid doll collector. On December 29, 1977, she was married to Raymond H. Newman in York.

Virginia is survived by her step-children; Steve Newman of Omaha and Linda (Scott) Tomlinson of The Woodlands, TX; grandchildren, Sara (Josh) Matthews of Houston, TX and Jennifer (Jeff) Northington of Kingwood, TX; and several nieces. Preceding her in death were her husband Raymond in November of 2004 and her parents.

Funeral services were held on Friday, April 14, 2006 at 10:00 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church in York. Burial followed at Greenwood Cemetery in York. Memorials may be directed to the First United Methodist or the First Christian Church of York.
