Merle Myers

Merle Dean Myers age 64 of York, NE died Saturday, January 03, 2009 at York. He was born September 27, 1944 at York to James G. and Verdena (Stouffer) Myers and was a longtime active member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church in York. A Viet Nam Veteran Merle served his country from 1968 – 1969 in the 295th Ordinance Company. Merle held various jobs around York before owning and operating Myers Construction Co in York for many years. On April 3, 1965 he was married to Judith Stuhr at Hampton, NE.

He is survived by his wife Judith of York, sons; Kirk and his wife Deborah Myers of Crete, NE and Scott and his wife Betty Myers of Lincoln. One daughter Deanna Myers of York. His grandchildren include Joshua Myers of Lincoln, Levi Myers of Oklahoma City, OK and Whitney Myers of Crete. Cody Dickes, Cole Dickes and Shelby Dickes all of York and Brittany Myers and Christopher Myers of Lincoln. Also surviving him is his mother Verdena Myers of York, two brothers Jerry and his wife Joan Myers of San Diego, CA and Kenneth and his wife Linda Myers of Holmesville, NE. Many nieces, nephews and a host of friends. He was preceded in death by his father James G. Myers.

Funeral services were held at 10:00 am Wednesday, January 7, 2009 at Emmanuel Lutheran Church in York with the Reverends Mike Neidow and Tim Marshall officiating. Burial followed in the Zion Lutheran Cemetery near Hampton, NE. Memorials may be directed to the sidewalk fund at Emmanuel Lutheran Church in York. Visitation begins after 1:00 pm Monday at Metz Mortuary in York with his family greeting friends from 7:00 – 8:30 pm Tuesday evening also at the mortuary
