Joan Mulinix

Joan Elizabeth Mulinix, age 63, of York, NE, passed away to her eternal home with Jesus on Wednesday, March 23, 201l. She was born on March 8, 1948 at Omaha, NE to Lester C. and Betty (Bernt) Peterson. She was baptized at St. Peter Catholic Church in Omaha, NE and attended grade school at St. Peter Catholic School until ten years old. Joan then moved to North Platte, NE in 1958 with her family. In 1966, Joan graduated from St. Patrick’s Catholic High School

Joan attended Lincoln School of Commerce in Lincoln, NE and worked at Lincoln Caterpillar until she met the love of her life, her husband Gene. It was a blind date that turned out to be love at first sight. Joan and Gene Mulinix were married on June 8, 1968. To this union three sons were born.

Joan was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, St. Joseph Altar Society, and the VFW Auxiliary. She was den leader, secretary, and treasurer of Cub Scout Pack 174 and secretary of Boy Scout Troop 174 for many years. Her three sons each received their Eagle Scout Awards.

Joan loved her gardening and flowers and especially the time spent with her grandchildren. Her quilting took up many of her free hours especially with her quilting group quilting on the weekends, chasing new fabric up and down to many towns, laughing and giggling all the way. She worked at Romans, Wiemer & Associates, CPA, Sylvester’s, CPA, and Mierau and Co., CPA over the last 20 years in York, NE.

She is survived by her husband of 42 years, Gene, of York; three sons, Brian (Debora) Mulinix and their children Nicholas and Miranda of Lincoln, Christopher (Christina) Mulinix and their children Courtney and Curtis Mulinix and Dallas and Isaiah Briney of York; and Jeremy (Kara) Mulinix and their son Jaden of Ft. Benning, GA.

Also surviving are three brothers, Gary (Jocile) Peterson of Akron, CO, Dave Peterson of Lincoln, and John (Becky) Peterson of Stapleton, NE; her mother Betty Peterson of North Platte; and many cousins, nephews, nieces and friends. She was preceded in death by her father; uncle, Jerome Bernt; and grandparents.

A Mass of Christian burial was held at 10:00 a.m., Monday, March 28, 2011 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in York. Interment followed immediately in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to St. Joseph Catholic School Foundation, the Lion’s Club of Nebraska Eye Bank, or the American Cancer Society.
