Lee Morris

Lee E. Morris, age 86 of Benedict, died Monday, July 14, 2008 at York. Lee was born on July 30, 1921 in York County to Delbert Charles and Rose (Bittinger) Morris. He was united in marriage to Shirley Johnson on June 2, 1944 at Mesa, AZ. and they lived and farmed in the Benedict-Bradshaw areas. Lee was a WWII veteran of the Air Force where he served as an airplane mechanic. He was a lifelong member of the Arborville United Church of Christ and had been the leader of the Arborville 4-H Bird Club, had been past president and treasurer of the Nebraska Ornithologists Union, an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed bird watching, gardening, traveling, hunting and fishing. His true joy was his family. In 1984 he was the recipient of the Nebraska Wetlands Water Conservation award.

His survivors include his wife Shirley of Benedict; sons, James and his wife Jan of Benedict, Steve and his wife Mindy of Grand Island, and Tom and his wife Cathy of Sydney, Australia; daughter, Linda and her husband Earl Fuehrer of Benedict; 17 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; sister Betty (Jess) Rust of York, and many nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death were his parents; brothers, Donald and Lloyd; and sister Rosemary Calhoon.

Funeral services were held on Thursday, July 17, 2008 at 2:30 p.m. at the Arborville United Church of Christ at Arborville with the Reverend Suzanne Harland officiating. Burial was in the Arborville Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the family.
