Ruth Moore

Ruth Goudy Moore, age 98, died Thursday, December 25, 2008 in her room at Mahoney House in York. She was born Sept. 26, 1910 at the Goudy Family Homestead 2 ½ miles north of Thayer, Nebraska. Ruth was the youngest of 4 living children of Gilbert and Ardell (Van Allen) Goudy. She had Polio as a young child but relearned how to walk and throughout her life she loved to go for long walks. She attended District 70 Country School, then York High School and was a 1927 graduate of Gresham High School. She attended Kearney State College and then taught school southeast of York.

On February 28, 1931, she was married to Keith Moore of Gresham, Nebraska with the wedding being conducted by her Uncle Rev. John Wright at Santee, Nebraska. Keith and Ruth lived on a farm 5 miles northeast of Gresham for nearly 10 years. Two of their children were born during that time, Dale and Norma. In 1940 they bought a farm in Thayer Township of York County, about 2 miles from where Ruth had grown up. Their three younger children, Judy, Dennis and Barbara, were born in York County.

In November of 1958 Keith passed away, but Ruth continued to live on the farm until 1996 when she moved to York. In the 1970s she worked for several years as a fraternity housemother for the Delta Tau Delta house at the University of Nebraska, Colorado State University and Kansas State University. Later she was the local “Avon Lady” for a number of years. She always enjoyed traveling, working in her yard and garden on the farm, and spending time with her family. While living in York in recent years she was blessed to have many very caring neighbors and she especially enjoyed her relationship with a number of the neighborhood children. Ruth was a member of Eastern Star, Daughters of the Nile, Rebekahs and the Presbyterian Church in Gresham.

Ruth is survived by her 5 children: Dale Moore and wife Darlene of Stromsburg, NE; Norma Lund and husband Robert of Lakeview, OR; Judy Reierson and husband Richard of Lexington, IL; Dr. Dennis Moore and wife Lise of Hamilton, MT; and Barbara Nord and husband Leroy of Palmer, AK. Also 13 Grandchildren, Cindy Gray and husband Lynn of Millard, NE; Kurt Moore and wife Diane of Stromsburg, NE; Scott Moore and wife Danene of Roseville, CA; Lara Lund of Burbank, CA; Tara DeReini and husband Josh of Portland, OR; Trent Reierson and wife Stephanie of Newbury Park, CA; Jennifer Osness and husband Ken of Ann Arbor, MI; Matthew Moore of Houston, TX; Cameron and Lauren Moore of Hamilton, MT; Leed Nord of Palmer, AK; Sabra Sturgis and husband Chris of Jackson, MS; and Cerise Nord of Salt Lake City, UT. Ruth also had 10 great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by; her parents; one brother, Paul Goudy; two sisters, Norma Thorsen and Roma Wilson; and daughter-in-law June Moore. A time to greet the family was held at Metz Mortuary on Thursday, January 15 from 7 to 8:30 pm. Memorial services were Friday, January 16, 2009 at 2 pm at the Presbyterian Church in Gresham, NE, with burial following at Cedar Lawn Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the American Heart Association.
