Charles W. Miller
Charles W. “Charlie” Miller age 91, of York, died Tuesday, February 16, 2010 at York. He was born June 13, 1918 in Rigby, ID to Melvin and Nancy (Engle) Miller. Charlie and Bernice English were united in marriage on October 26, 1942 in Wahoo, NE. Charlie served in the U.S. Army from October of 1942 until June of 1945. He worked as a boiler/ fireman at the Hastings Navel Ammunition Depot for 19 years. In 1981, he moved to York. He was a member of the Eagles, Elks and DAV. On June 17, 1983 he was united in marriage to Eva Portlock at York.
Survivors include his two sons, Charles M. (Judy) Miller of York and Cecil B. (Janice) Miller of Cawker City, KS; four daughters, Donna Jean Tidmore of Springfield, MO, Eva Jayne (Bill) Hayes of LaPorte, TX, Patsy Ann Hoover of Fresno, CA, and Debbie Jean (Tony)Alvarez of Marysville, WA; 13 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; 13 great-great grandchildren; and 4 great-great-great grandchildren. Also surviving are 3 nieces, Vera Moore, Sharon Gustafson, and Pat Larson; 2 nephews, Larry Miller and Lonnie Miller; sister-in-law Dorothy Miller and numerous other relatives and friends. Preceding him in death were his parents, both wives, sisters, Adrion and Edna and a brother James Brice.
Funeral services were held at 3:30 p.m., Friday, February 19, 2010 at Metz Mortuary, York, NE with the Reverend Pat Norris officiating. Graveside services were at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, February 20, 2010 at the Mount Olive Cemetery in Hamburg, IA.
