Arleen Miller
Arleen M. Miller, age 89 of York, NE, was called to Heaven on Friday, July 03, 2009 at Utica, NE, following a brief illness. She was born March 6, 1920 at Hampton, NE to John and Anna (Schaepler) Wall. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Hampton and graduated from Hampton High School in 1937. Arleen graduated from St. Francis School of Nursing in Grand Island, NE in May of 1941. She was married to Maurice D. Miller on February 14, 1942 at Pasadena, CA. She lived in Pasadena for two years and Hampton for two years while Maurice was in the Army, serving during WWII. Following his discharge in 1946, they moved to York where Arleen has since resided.
Arleen worked in her nursing career until retiring in 1985. She was an active member of Faith Lutheran Church in York, the LWML, Singles Club, Baker’s Dozen, Friendship Club and Pitch Marathon group. She also did volunteer work at York Middle School and spent many volunteer hours at the York Senior Center.
Survivors include: one daughter, Beccy (Don) Schultze of Seward, NE; three grandchildren, John Nabower, Christy (Troy) Wiens, and Michael Schultze; four great-grandchildren, Jessica Nabower, Claire Wiens, and Cort and Kian Schultze. Arleen is also survived by a sister, Wanda (Willard) Klawonn of Hampton, brother-in-law, Norm (Pat) Miller from CA, four nephews and one niece. Preceding her in death were her parents, husband, infant son Richard, daughter Sandra, and sister Lilah.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Monday, July 6, 2009 at Faith Lutheran Church in York followed by burial at Plainfield Cemetery near Bradshaw, NE. Visitation will be from 1-9 pm Sunday at the mortuary with the family greeting friends from 7-8:30 that evening. Memorials may be directed to the family for later designation.
