Cornelius A. Mierau

C.A. “Cornie” Mierau, age 89 of Henderson, NE died Tuesday, December 13, 2011 at his home. He was born September 3, 1922 in Henderson to C.J. and Maria (Peters) Mierau. He was baptized on May 24, 1942 and then united in marriage to Lillian Siebert, both at Bethesda Mennonite Church by Rev. A.W. Friesen. He attended District 31 grade school and graduated from Henderson High School. He was a lifelong Henderson area farmer.

C.A. was a member of the Mennonite Central Committee. He also helped build a church in Montana. He enjoyed gardening, fishing, playing dominoes, and having coffee with friends. He was an avid sportsman, especially attending high school sports.

He is survived by his wife Lillian of Henderson; son Donald Wayne (Karen) Mierau of Henderson, three daughters: Diane (Steve) Buller and Janet M. (Larry) Vancura both of Henderson, and Jeanne Faye (Jeff) Brehm of Lincoln, NE; 11 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; brother-in-law Howard Buller of North Newton, KS, many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, and three sisters.

Memorial services were held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, December 16, 2011 at Bethesda Mennonite Church in Henderson with the Reverend Jim Voth officiating. Interment took place prior to memorial services at 1:15 p.m. on Friday at Bethesda Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the Mennonite Central Committee.
