Michael Meyer

Michael L. Meyer, age 55, of North Platte, NE, died Sunday, July 19, 2009 at Omaha, NE from complications due to a work-related accident. He was born May 29, 1954 at York, NE to Paul and Lorraine (Brunssen) Meyer. He was a 1972 graduate of York High School and received his Associates Degree from Milford Community College. Michael previously worked for Excel Fabrication, a division of Cargill Industries, and was presently working for Knobel Refrigeration in North Platte. While working for Excel, he was the vice president of their union. He also did construction and drywall work on the side. Michael was united in marriage to Karen M. Lulow on November 1, 1975 at York.

Michael was an artist, writer, photographer, and worked with leather. He earned numerous awards for his leather work projects and was a member of the Columbine Leather Guild. He was also a member of the North Platte Art Guild. Michael enjoyed spending time in the outdoors as well as doing volunteer work with children, senior citizens, and the Salvation Army. His nieces and nephews were special to him and he loved sharing in their lives. He was a kind and caring person with a big heart and will be missed by all who knew him.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife Karen of North Platte; parents Paul and Lorraine Meyer of York; siblings: Paula (Bill) Brandenburgh of Bellwood, NE, Loren Meyer of York, Daryl (Sherri) Meyer of Davenport, IA, Karen (Jeff) Horton of Americus, KS, and David Meyer of York; parents-in-law Don and Helen Lulow of York; brother-in-law Keith Lulow of Grand Island, NE; and sister-in-law Kim (Jim) Hoffman of York. Also surviving are special friends Zebulun Gunn and family; Pam and Gary Lillich; ten nieces and nephews; five great nephews, and many aunts, uncles cousins, other relatives and a host of friends. He was preceded in death by his paternal and maternal grandparents and a niece.

Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 p.m., Friday, July 24, 2009 at the First Evangelical Lutheran Church in York with the Reverend Terry Cosier officiating. Michael’s body will be cremated following the services with inurment at a later date. Visitation will be 1-9 p.m., Wednesday and 9 a.m-9 p.m. Thursday at the mortuary. The family will greet friends Thursday evening from 6-8 p.m. Memorials may be directed to the family for later designation.
