Howard Merches

Howard Merches, age 86 of York, died Sunday, July 9, 2006 at York. Howard was born October 16, 1919 to George and Elsie (Arnsdorff) Merches at Sioux Falls, South Dakota. He was married to Leona Martin on March 26, 1942 at Minneapolis, MN. Howard worked as a minister and traveled around to several small towns where he would preach. He became involved in city councils and town leaderships within those communities. Howard also loved to sing and was a member of the Barber Shop group in Mason City, IA for several years.

Survivors include his son: Mark (Carol) Merches of Davenport, IA; daughters: Susanne (Arthur) Keller of York, and Kathy (Bruce) McGee of Park City, MT; grandchildren: Ivan (Vickie) Keller, Stephanie (Gary) Yeager, Dan (Lori) Keller, Chris Merches, Clay (Jennifer) Merches, Bryce McGee and Keaton McGee; and 16 great grandchildren. Also surviving are his sisters: Georgianna (Merrill) Ostreich, and Marcile (Matthew) Noall. Howard was preceded in death by his wife, Leona, parents and one brother, Herb Merches.

A Memorial Service were held at the East Hill Church of Christ on Thursday, July 13, 2006. Memorials may be directed to the family.
