Louise Melton

Louise Melton, age 87 of York, NE passed away on November 9, 2007 at the York General Hearthstone. She was born on May 1, 1920 at Mountain Grove, MO to John and Sarah (Coffman) Prock. She was united in marriage to Howard Austin Melton in Mountain Grove on March 11, 1940. To this union four children were born, Jim, Gary, Janice and Ronnie. Louise and Howard lived with Howard’s grandparents, who were both immigrants from Europe, in Mountain Grove for a short time before deciding to move to Nebraska to make their home. Louise was a homemaker and a good mother who enjoyed cooking, country western, bluegrass and gospel music and who also played the guitar and sang.

Those left to cherish her memory are her two sons, Jim (Joann) Melton of York and Gary (Connie) Melton of Wilber, NE; daughter Janice Allerton of Dorchester, NE; grandchildren Kirk Melton of Lincoln, Vicki (Allen) Thompson of Mesa, AZ, Lisa (Kevin) Veprovsky of Dorchester, Brian (Kathy) Vossler of Crete, NE, Doug Melton of York and Kelly Melton also of York; step-grandson, Scott Steider, great-grandchildren Dylan Vossler of Crete, Rebecca Lynn Thompson of Mesa, AZ, Brooke Melton of Belleville, KS, Austin and Isaac Melton of York; step great-grandchildren, Lesley, Lindey and Lori Steider of York; three step great great-grandchildren; two sisters, Aline Smith and Lucille Lathrom both of Mountain Grove and many nieces, nephews and a host of friends. Preceding her in death were her parents, husband, son Ronnie, three sisters and a son-in-law Russ Allerton.

Funeral services were Tuesday, November 13, 2007 at the Arbor Drive Community Church with the Reverend Keith Bateman officiating. Graveside services were at the Exeter Cemetery, Exeter, NE. Memorials may be directed to the Arbor Drive Baptist Church or the family.
